We are currently looking for a Safety Officer to develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines. To manage resources and work processes which will ensure that the contractual obligations to customers are achieved in a cost-effective manner whilst the prescribed Company procedures are applied.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
• Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
• Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
• Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
• Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
• Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
• Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
• Distribute monthly/ daily safety talk topics to the shifts for discussion at parades
• Review and update risk assessments when necessary
• Investigate safety related incidents on site
• Ensure compliance to safety requirements
• Conduct monthly post inspections to ensure no deviations to procedures/ requirements as well as inspect all registers/ files
• Issue and order recommended PPE and uniform to employees, damaged uniform items need to be accompanied by photos to be replaced
• Take control of returned uniform
• Take control of the medical & induction process – ensuring that officers on shift have valid medicals and inductions.
• Conduct weekly SD400 audits with the Operations Manager
• Relieve at Inplant Deliveries as well as Admin Assistant when needed
ISO 9001; 14001 & 45001 – Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Standards
• Adhere to the Thorburn Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Management System’s Policies & Procedures as applicable to this position.
Skills and Competencies
• Computer literacy
• Reliable Safety Officer to ensure everyone at the Site complies with health and safety laws
• As a safety Officer you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards
• You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs
• The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential
• The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety
Qualifications
• Matric
• Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
• Proven experience Safety Management or relevant field is preferred
